On Thanksgiving I usually have some Thanksgiving Kid’s Activities for my grandkids to do at my house while the turkey is cooking and people are gathering.
Kids love to color and cut out things. And I have done these cute Pilgrim place cards out of the leftover pine cones in my front yard for a few years. All you need are wiggly eyes and pipe cleaners. The tutorial is HERE on my cooking blog.
The kids also love making these little Pilgrim and Turkey finger puppets. They can go along with some songs and finger plays you copy off for them to sing. There are also sing along songs on Youtube you can have playing on the T.V. HERE they are.
I saw a Tic Tac Toe for Thanksgiving that is free and printable that looks like fun for school aged kids to do. It is HERE at Printabelle.
Here is a cute Turkey Beanie Babie that would be fun to use for a Hot Potato game. When you get “out” you could come get a Tootie Roll pop. Or fun grandma’s could just pass them out to their grandkiddos.
Another fun thing we do is play Pin the Hat on the Turkey (like Pin the Tail on the Donkey).
For fun desserts you can have the kids make these little Pilgrim Hat treats or Turkeys from a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup and candy corn. The hard part is finding candy corn after Halloween. Sometimes it is hard to get so I always pick up a bag at Halloween.
We always do a Thanksgiving Bingo game with lots of fun prizes for adults AND for kids. The adult parents will help the kids find the icons on the Bingo board. HERE are a few freebie ones you can download.
Another thing I tried last year that was a hit. We had every family bring a jar decorated and filled with an amount of candies or gumballs or whatever. And then we had little pieces of paper and bowls for guessing how many in each jar. Everybody can guess. Whoever is closest to the number inside gets to take home the jar. Each family got to take something home. (Yes, we cheated and made it fair…haha).
Hope you have a fun Thanksgiving with family. It is one of my favorite holidays.
