At Patties Place Speaking is one thing I love to do. I love speaking engagements and teaching classes. It is a fun way I like to give back, from all those who mentored me over the years. Whether it was helping me raise my 4 kids, or teaching me homemaking skills, or how to plan a party or teach a classroom full of gifted kids. I appreciate all those people who taught me the best practices. And I like sharing what I’ve learned.
I have been an activities chairman over my church congregation 3 times for 2 years each time. I’ve written or directed plays, musical productions, and melodramas for adults, my classroom children, and teens. Through the years of volunteer work, I’ve learned from some real experts who mentored me, how to plan and host dinners for 300 people, parties on a myriad of themes and holidays, teen and adult dances, family campouts, Stake Pioneer Day activities I was co-chair of, and conferences for young people with fun to go along with the mini classes I’ve organized.
Most of these events I had to get people to work for me, I had to watch my budgets, and I had to have decorations and foods and activities to please. I’ve chaired stake mother-daughter and ward family and young women’s summer campouts, and Homemaking nights. I’ve spent years in different leadership capacities I’ve been charged with, in ward and stake settings in my church. (small congregations of 500 to large stakes of 11 congegrations).
I have a wealth of experience in event planning, and would love to share my expertise in party planning, cooking, home organization, kids arts and crafts, and party planning, family reunions, making holidays more fun and meaningful, road trips and festivals around Utah, and family fun. I can address any educational topics your women’s group or conference may require. And I love to talk. Just ask anyone who knows me. 😀
I have spoken at Youth Conferences, Stake Conferences, Homemaking in the Stake and Ward, National Math Teacher Conferences (Salt Lake City 2007). I’ve presented on topics such as Finding Family Fun, Family Reunions, Cooking, Party Planning, and for teachers I’ve presented on Differentiated Learning in the younger grades, Regional Teacher Conferences and BYU Partnership Conferences in Literacy, and (Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics) on Teaching Young Children math, or integrating music, art, writing and science into mathematics instruction.
I have been a Jordan School District Science trainer and presenter, as well as assisting with Utah Core Academy and Jordan District Science Fairs. I would love to share ways to get kids involved in loving Science, no matter how old they are. I have had a website for 5 years called Patties Classroom. Check it out at http://pattiesclassroom.blogspot.com.
I have had my own tutoring service Tutors 2 U and would love to help parents learn ways they can increase their own child’s test scores and abilities in reading and math. Or just teach their own kids to read. I’ve raised 4 kids and am grandma to 7 (all girls except for one). I have had teenagers and survived them. I’ve lost a child and have learned to carry on. I’ve learned that hard times don’t last forever and you can still find joy during them.
I have been a teacher of Title 1 and of Gifted and Talented kids for a total of 21 years. I have been President of all 3 of the auxillary organizations in church leadership, some twice, and have been a counselor in a Stake primary as well as president, and a 2nd and 1st counselor in a stake young women’s presidency. I’ve been a team lead over school teachers many times, a schoolwide mentor, and committee chairman often. I can do whatever you need to enhance your organization’s theme.
